Many elements have to be taken into account in the selection of sealing material for the specific sealing joint. The most important thereof, are the operating temperature and pressure, type of sealed medium and the joint construction. There also occur other factors affecting the sealing efficiency, for example the cyclic work, mechanical vibrations, assembly precision or the technical condition of flanges. 

To ensure the long and stable operation of sealing, it is necessary to meet some requirements related to the flanges, bolts and assembly method. The key condition is to secure the parallelism and flatness of co-operating flanges. In such case only, is it possible to acquire on the whole sealing area the assembly clamps greater than that required by the calculation procedures and at the same time not exceeding the stresses destroying the seal under the operating conditions. In practice however, at many places under the assembly conditions, the use of torque wrenches is not possible. In such case we recommend applying such clamp between the flanges to compress the seal by 8-10 % of its original thickness. In most cases such a clamp is sufficient for the sealing of a joint without simultaneous damage to seal structure. For the same reason it’s recommended to use in the whole joint identical bolts of good technical condition and coated with good grease.
